2022 Black Island Winery “Merga Victa” Pošip Sur Lie

The wine is golden yellow in the glass, honeyed on the nose, with notes of tree fruit, rustic herbs, and a hint of salinity on the palate. The freshness and balanced acidity, coupled with low alcohol, make this a versatile food-pairing wine.

But wait, am I drinking a lightly oaked chardonnay? Winemaker Igor agreed. It’s textured, round, and full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel.

The Pošip comes from 50-year-old vines and is aged in French, American, and Croatian Oak. I understand it’s very popular with the throngs of Americans who visit Black Island Winery to enjoy it. And, at only €30, it’s a value compared to most international chardonnays.

Stay tuned. Wine Character Igor Radovanovic’s interview is coming soon!
