2023 Vina Grgich Plavac Mali

Of course, the big story has always been about Mike Grgich of Napa Valley and Judgment of Paris fame; But here you have a Croatian wine produced from indigenous grapes on the Peljesac Peninsula, by a longstanding local winemaking family from Trystanick.

80% of the fruit is sourced from the Dingač region, one of the premium growing regions on the peninsula. The wine was aged on oak for 15 months before bottling for two years.

The wine is exotic and very aromatic on the nose, with dark cherry and dark plum, backed by rustic herbs. This fruit-forward wine shows dark cherry and fresh plum on the palate, with rugged tannins and a hint of vanilla from oak aging. The 2023 still needs time, but is worth investing in now. Drink now with beef, lamb, or roast chicken, and strong cheeses, or hold for four to seven years.
