Krystal Patel is the owner and winemaker of Meierstone Vineyards in Texas Hill Country, in Stonewall, TX. Her introduction to winemaking began in childhood, helping her grandmother make wine in the basement of the family farmhouse. Her father, a biochemist at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, encouraged her interest in science early, challenging her to solve chemistry problems before school—an influence that later shaped her analytical approach to winemaking.
Patel studied cellular and molecular biology and later earned a Master’s degree in Business. She spent a decade working in the technology sector in Linux systems support, cloud database architecture, technical training, government initiatives, and global workforce strategy.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, time spent at her family’s ranch on the Texas Hill Country led her back to agriculture and ultimately to winemaking. She began working with regional grape growers, learning Texas viticulture through mentorship and hands-on experience in the vineyard and cellar.

What’s the ONE THING most unique, authentic, & memorable about your brand?
The story of Jacob Brodbeck is at the heart of what makes Meierstone Vineyards so unique. A German immigrant, winemaker, and inventor, Brodbeck helped shape early Texas wine culture by creating one of the first grape destemmers in the region. He was also the visionary behind an early airship, inspired by his belief that innovation could expand what was possible. His curiosity, creativity, and determination established a spirit of invention that became a defining part of our family’s identity.
Today, that legacy lives on through the Meier family and me on our fifth-generation land in Stonewall. Meierstone was founded not only to produce wine, but to honor Brodbeck’s passion and perseverance, carrying forward his belief in building something meaningful for future generations. His story connects our past to our present, and that enduring spirit is what makes Meierstone truly one of a kind.
Describe how and what you’d do with your winemaking career or winery business if you were not constrained.
If not constrained, our vision for Meierstone Vineyards would be to fully realize the estate from ground to glass. We are currently planting our own vineyard on the property, and in a dream scenario, we would expand it into a thriving estate program supported by a dedicated on-site production facility.
Beyond the vineyard, we would expand Meierstone into a destination centered on community and experience. This includes growing our wine club into a highly personalized, immersive program and hosting more curated events that bring people closer to the land, the wines, and our story. Our ultimate goal would be for guests to not only enjoy our wines, but to feel like they are part of something lasting, an evolving legacy rooted in place, family, and Texas wine.
What is the One Wine most emblematic of your brand and/or winemaking style? Tell us its story.
The most emblematic wine of Meierstone Vineyards is our Airship red blend, named in honor of our ancestor, Jacob Brodbeck and his visionary spirit. Built on a Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, the wine reflects a sense of lift and balance, with soft red fruit and a smooth, graceful finish that feels both grounded and elevated. Airship vintages have earned some of Texas’ highest honors, including Double Gold, Class Champion, and “Top Texas Wine” at the Houston International Wine Competition, reinforcing its role as both a flagship and a tribute. If someone were to try just one Meierstone wine, Airship tells our story best, it captures our history, our spirit of innovation, and our commitment to carrying that legacy forward. Bonus Question: Why Winemaking?
Winemaking for Meierstone Vineyards began long before it was ever a business; it was a family tradition. As a child, I grew up making wine alongside my grandmother using Mustang grapes picked right off the property, continuing a hands-on legacy that traces back generations to Jacob Brodbeck. What started as something deeply personal became something more during the pandemic, when I stepped away from a career in tech and returned to the family land. What I thought would be a reset became a calling. Through winemaking, I found a way not only to create something meaningful but to reconnect with my roots, preserve my family’s story, and share that history with others. Today, winemaking is more than a profession; it’s a way to honor where we came from while building something lasting for future generations.
