Clif Family 2021 “Proprietary Red Wine”

Electric Violet in color, the wine radiates clean blue and black fruits. Full-bodied, juicy and spicy, the Proprietary Red Wine is a classic Left-Bank Bordeaux-styled blend mostly comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon. All the fruit was farmed organically in the Valle Di Sotto estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll district of Napa Valley.

I love the rich mouthfeel – fruit balanced with pleasant acidity and well-integrated subtle tannins. There’s a layered complexity that begs the next sip. I carefully chose this as my birthday wine, pairing it with grass-fed premium beef burgers, a long-standing birthday tradition. I wish it was Beef Bourgogne, and I’ll plan a future tasting with that dish in mind.

This is an outstanding wine, with all the structural elements in place and surprisingly in balance after only two years in bottle. Drink now, as only 900 cases were produced, or hold for 6 to 9 years from vintage date. Click here to read winemaker Laura Barrett’s interview.
