This is a crisp, fresh, and laser-focused Sauvignon Blanc from winemaker Diego Rivera. The wine shows pale yellow-green in the glass, with intense aromas and lots of citrus, with grapefruit and menthol herbs apparent. The medium-long finish is clean with balanced fruit and acidity.
Leyda Valley is proximate to the Pacific Ocean. The vineyards reside only 8.6 miles away, and the wine shows some coastal salinity as a result. This adds to the structural balance and overall complexity.
This is my idea of an ideal Summer Wine, and lends itself to food pairing. Tonight we enjoy grilled rainbow trout from Idaho, sauteed spinach, and a green garden salad with strawberries, snap peas, and feta cheese. I suggest you do too.
Read winemaker Diego Rivera’s interview (not to be confused with the Mexican of the same name fame), and learn why this Sauv Blanc is their flagship.
