This is 100% Vermentino and typical of the variety from my experience. Vermentino is a dry white wine typically associated with Italy. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and finished in neutral oak barrels, which accounts for the creamy mouthfeel. Citrus fruits abound with some floral notes on the nose and palate. What a nice representation from Vinyl Vineyards in Paso Robles.
This wine was mouth-watering. With less than 13% alcohol, it’s a flexible white wine for food pairings. Whitefish comes to mind, and shellfish too – think grilled shrimp or oysters.
We found ourselves with no dinner plans and without those seafood items. Luckily had a Tarte d’Alsace in the freezer. Tarte d’Alsace is a flatbread with ham, caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, and a bit of creme’ fraiche which contrasts the saltiness of the ham and matches the creaminess of the wine.
