The 2023 “Judri” Sauvignon is deep lemon-yellow in the glass, with fresh, bright aromas of citrus and tree fruit. The wine has a creamy texture, good mid-palate structure, and a medium-long finish. It’s reminiscent of other cool climate Sauvignon Blancs I’ve had – grapefruit, grass, and minerality.
The grapes are from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northeast Italy, DOC Collio. We visited this region a few years ago and loved the high acid Alpine minerality of the white wines, and this Sauvignon punches does not disappoint. Grapes were fermented in stainless steel, and the wine aged for 18 months in French and Slovenian oak; I assume large format and mostly neutral.
At only 13% alcohol, and given the creamy mouthfeel, we decided to pair this with white fish – Roasted Miso Black Cod and broccolini – an excellent wine and pairing.
