This ruby red Mourvèdre is transparent in the glass, with spicy and earthy aromas on the nose. It’s red-fruited, herbaceous, spicy, and perfumy on the palate. Medium-bodied with medium length.
There’s much talk in the Wine Review business about “tasting the vineyard”. Winemaker Keith Saarloos – Son of “Dad” – avoids the cliché and delivers on the vine-to-wine claim.
While the alcohol is a little high for my taste, at 14.5 percent, it’s not apparent, as the wine is nicely balanced and well structured with fruit and acid. Drink now or hold for 7 to 10 years. Even better do both.
We’re enjoying this wine tonight with homemade marinara sauce, spinach-turkey meatballs, and a side salad. I’m guessing this pairing is something that winemaker and poet, Keith, and his father Larry would enjoy and share with their family and friends.
