This blend is quite an accomplishment for winemaker Greg Hamilton. It’s only three years old, a toddler really. But this GSM is so soft, creamy, and balanced. Even the tannins are well integrated. Honestly, it’s hard to imagine how this wine can improve over time. Drink up, I say, if you can get your hands on it.
The fruit – 50% Grenache, 23% Syrah, and 25% Mourvèdre – is from Windsor Oaks Vineyard, on Chalk Hill in Sonoma County. This is an exceptional wine, so smooth on the palate, bursting with black fruit and baking spices. The oak is not a distraction, and the 14.5% alcohol is not apparent.
We got lucky and paired this wine with a fresh “Star” tomato sauce, with garlic, basil, and red pepper, over fresh cavatappi pasta.
