Wow, high elevation Cinsault from El Dorado County, California’s gold country. Winemaker Cary Q hit the jackpot with this single-vineyard offering. The wine is young and still developing and doesn’t offer much aroma at first, but it’s velvety and medium full bodied on the palate, showing red to blue fruit, tumbleweed Bramble (rustic herbs), baking spices and light tannins.
Fermentation was 50% whole cluster and neutral oak treatment to preserve and highlight fruit quality and the light nature of this wine. I love that Cary takes a non-intervention seriously, using native yeast fermentations, stainless and neutral oak puncheons. This is a very good wine and is drinking well now, and will develop into an excellent offering in the next 2-3 years.
Pair this wine with Mediterranean dishes including grilled veggies, roast chicken, and Moroccan or Indian dishes. You should read about winemaker Cary Q!
