The Baby Blue Blanc from Sonoma County shimmers in the light, just off-pale white in the glass with a slight hint of skin contact. The Sauvignon Blanc is pronounced on the nose and gives way to hints of Semillon and Viognier which comprise 25% of the blend and enhance complexity and mouthfeel. This is a very good light-bodied white wine worth seeking out, and a nice expression of what Sonoma County can do with Sauvignon Blanc forward fruit. This is a “baby” wine that can be enjoyed now, but I think it will settle out and mature to adolescence over the next 2-3 years.
The Blanc is a playful and fun sipper, not requiring food, but paired with summer salads – we enjoyed it with a Mexican “Esquite” recipe (grilled corn, mayo, crema and cilantro), a quinoa salad, wild rice salad, green salad with chicken and avocado. It was a fitting threesome of salads that melded nicely with the Blanc.
This wine is being reviewed in addition to the “#1 Wine” selected by Kenny Kahn in his interview.
