2023 Birichino Besson Grenache Old Vines

This very young medium body wine is from old vines and exhibits light strawberry on the nose, like jamminess on the palate. This is a smooth, easy sipping Grenache showing dried herbs and a slight tartness on the finish. This old vine Grenache wants to be at dinner with you. Compliment that pairing with grilled rainbow trout and roasted mushrooms, carrots, and cherry tomatoes. on a bed of ancient grains like farro to honor this historic Santa Cruz vineyard planted in 1910 and the juice it produces.

The Besson vineyard is one of the few remaining pre-prohibition vineyards left in the State of California. The Besson family nurtured this vineyard since the 1940s and passed on the legacy to  Birichino Wines.

This is a very good wine that will improve with age. Drink now with a well-matched meal (anything that does with Pinot Noir), or age four to seven years. And don’t miss the interview with Alex Krause. Learn why he chose this wine as the most emblematic of the Birichino brand.
