Have you had sandstone fermented pinot noir? Me neither. The effect is a light, natural, and unrefined (in a good way) expression of pinot noir from the northern climes of New York State. And another first. I’ve never had a pinot noir at under 11% (10.9% specifically) alcohol. I love the idea and might be inspired to drink the whole bottle, just because.
Let me explain. 5 clones of pinot noir were fermented separately in sandstone amphorae vessels, using native yeasts, and thus the 2022 “Sandstone” Pinot Noir. This is a different expression of pinot noir, and worth seeking out for its, well, singularity. The wine is rustic and has an old world essence. It’s been open and tasted over the course of two days and continues to evolve it’s unique character.
