Earthy and herbaceous, the “Wild Hare” estate Pinot Noir is grown at a relatively high elevation (800 feet) and is wild-fermented. What’s also wild and a departure is that Gabriel Jagle didn’t use traditional French oak to age this wine, but rather 40% new estate-grown Oregon white oak. If you like talking “terroir”, you’ll love this all estate-grown winery and wine story.
This is a very well-structured and complex single-vineyard offering from Scenic Valley Farms in the Southern Willamette Valley. It’s worth seeking out and enjoying now, although I’m excited to follow this wine over the next 3-5 years (or longer), as it has all the backbone required for aging.
We’re enjoying this wine tonight with a classic Coq Au Vin, crusty rustic French bread, and a simple salad. Yes, I’m confident that you will too 😉
