The folks at Dresser Vineyard are nothing if not playful, and “SFR” (Shit Faced Red) certainly speaks to their brand. Who doesn’t like a big Petite Syrah forward wine after all? This blend is also typical of many big red blends from hot and dry Paso Robles – big fruit and alcohol forward – but winemaker Kory Burke makes it work with 50% of the blend derived from Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel.
This wine has a dense full frontal approach of luscious black fruit, spice, herbs, and black pepper, with hints of chocolate from oak aging. This is an excellent full-bodied wine to have on hand for meals that call for a big non-tannic red blend – I want grilled flank steak with this wine – and to follow its development over at least the next five to seven years. Have a read and learn why Kory chose “SFR” as representative of the Dresser brand.
