The flagship wine for Domaine Skouras is “Megas Oenos”, which translates to Great Wine. It’s clever marketing by a leading-edge winery that exports 50% of its products overseas. It’s a blend of 80% Agiorgitiko and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, grown in limestone soils at high elevations in Nemea PDO on the Peloponnese.
It’s red fruited fresh, earthy, and spicy, with pleasant acidity and fine grain tannins. This is an excellent wine, drinking well already, at only three years of age. I am told by the export manager that Megas Oenos can be aged for 10-15 years. I hope I have the opportunity to try the wine again within that age range. The winery’s focus is Agiorgitiko.
