2022 Domaine Roc de L’Abbaye Sauvignon Blanc “Val de Loire”

This Sauvignon Blanc is light yellow and transparent in the glass, with citrus and tree fruits, mostly lemon on the nose and palate. I love the acidity balance in this wine, crisp and lip-smacking. Roc de L’Abbey is a Sancerre-based producer located in the Saint-Satur region.

I visited Sancerre in 2024 and wrote about my experience for Winetraveler Magazine. Based on this wine and learning the history of the winery, I plan to visit next time I’m in Sancerre, hopefully soon.

The fruit for this wine was sourced from Touraine in central Loire. The minerality is light, acidity bright, and mouthfeel creamy due to heavy lees interaction. I love white wines with high acidity, low alcohol, and this one at only 12.5%. A perfect pairing for simple grilled trout filets, roasted vegetables, and Arugula, Beet and Crottin de Chavignol cheese salad.
