2021 ONX “Mad Crush”

This is an interesting red blend – I’ll call it “GMT” – Grenache, Mourvedre, and Tempranillo, from the Templeton Gap District in Paso Robles, and it’s big.

Dark fruits, cherry and plum dominant, and play off fruity acidity with tannins that should soften over time. We took this wine to Carina Lounge in Northwest Portland, a contemporary Italian restaurant. If you let the wine open over time and well ahead of dinner, and you will be rewarded.

This is a very good Paso Robles Grenache-based wine that will continue to age well, three to seven years, if you don’t bring all you have to your favorite Italian restaurants. Pair with Italian red meat sauce pastas, pizzas, and anything with a hint of hot red pepper. Read winemaker Drew’s explanation for why they developed this blend.

Bonus Note: ONX Wines has one of the best Virtual Tasting Kits I have seen since the Covid-19 zoom tasting days. Check their website for details.
