2021 L’Aventure Estate Cuvee

This Estate Cuvee celebrates the 20th anniversary of L’Aventure winery. The wine is densely textured, unfiltered, and deep Crimson in the glass. I don’t need to drink this wine, but rather just to smell it. Black fruit, Mediterranean herbs, and with fruit and acid in balance, and this wine was just released in 2024. This is a full-bodied Bordeaux-style red blend with a long finish with soft tannins in check. It’s drinking surprisingly well for such a young wine, all aspects of its structure in balance. I’m not sure how the winemaker managed to integrate 15% alcohol, but it worked well.

I often taste with my wife who admittedly has a better palate than I do. Her first sip response was “Damn”, which is an uncommon superlative for her. I concur, this is an outstanding one that is somehow drinkable now, and I’m both drinking now and hoarding possibly for the next 10 to 12 years.

We’re having this cuvée of 50% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% for Petit Verdot – with a homemade ragu, a deep red sauce with all the meats we’ve been warned about. What’s life if not for living, and we’re living large tonight. Read Chloe’s wine character interview here.
