This is a single-vineyard pinot noir from old vines of the Rochioli vineyard in the Russian River AVA, one of the best zones for pinot noir in Northern California.
Dusty and earthy, with scents of mushrooms and forest floor on the nose, the acids, tannins, and relatively high alcohol are already integrated and present a lovely pinot noir characteristic of the Russian River AVA. On the palate, I’m getting juicy dark red fruits, Cherian plum, and nice herbal qualities. This is an excellent medium-bodied wine, more old-world in style than new, showing rusticity and complexity over time.
I selected Idaho rainbow trout from the fishmonger and for the grill, and it paired beautifully with this Pinot. Add a green salad with basil vinaigrette and make an event.
