This reserve Pinot noir from Ferrari Ranch in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA showcases what this variety does best at elevation in warm maritime climates. The wine is well-structured and balanced, with a transparent, bright cherry garnet color, and luscious red fruit notes on both the nose and palate. Lively acidity plays nicely with the freshness of the fruit. Tannins are fine and well integrated. The Pinot Noir rested on 50% new and one-year-old French oak barrels. Interesting tech note from winemaker Ross Reedy – I added “a touch” of the 2020 vintage for complexity. I love everything about this wine.
This is an exceptional pinot noir, in my humble opinion. One worth drinking now and investing in if you can get it – limited production – only one or two barrels were made. I believe this one rivals some of the best Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs I’ve tried, and will likely age four to seven years with no hesitation. Kudos to Ross and the winemaking team.
