2021 was Peter Sturn’s inaugural vintage, and he came out with bells on. The 2021 Violet Pinot Noir has taken on weight and texture since I first tasted it last year, and is showing ruby red in the glass and juicy and generous on the palate. You can expect a full-bodied Pinot Noir with dark fruit and herbal notes balanced with medium-high acidity. This is a smooth wine and an outstanding example of what Willamette Valley has to offer and what to look for from Peter and Eila – thoughtful, complex, and lingering Pinot Noirs.
This wine is absolutely drinkable now, it does beg your next sip. For collectors who find Pinot Noir fascinating, it would also be interesting to see how it develops over the 2-5 years. A simple grilled halibut steak would benefit greatly in a pairing, as would the “Violet”. Click here to read Peter Sturns interview.
