2021 Cantina Zaccagnini “Tralcetto” Montepulciano D’Abruzzo

This wine tastes of Italy. I get aromas of red to blue fruit and a rustic savoriness of wild thyme. The wine has medium acidity, is medium-bodied, and is well structured even in the absence of oak treatment. Each bottle of Tralcetto comes with a small vine clipping tied to the neck of the bottle, a nice physical and sensory connection to the vineyard.

This is an outstanding wine, easy to drink now, and will improve for the next two to three years. We enjoyed this Montepulciano D’Abruzzo with pasta bolognese, a wonderful pairing with the beef, veal, pork, and vegetable ingredients in the sauce. And at only 13% alcohol we weren’t shy about polishing off the bottle with dinner.
