2021 Bending Branch “Texas Cowboy Cuvee”

Everything about this wine is big, even by Texas standards. It’s a Texas white-oak-aged big Bordeaux-style blend with dark red fruit, nice dusty minerality, firm tannins, and full-bodied with at least 15% alcohol. Giddy up!

This is a single-vineyard red blend from Newsom Vineyards, a high-elevation site in High Plains AVA. The wine aged for 24 months in Texas white oak, a unique approach to aging Bordeaux blends – 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 22% Petite Syrah (technically not a “Noble Grape”, i.e., Cab Franc, and 14% Malbec.

If we had Texas-grown beef, we’d grill it and pair it with this wine, and we’d share it with good friends on a brilliant Portland, Oregon, or West Texas evening.
