The wine is cherry red in the glass, not quite opaque, with no signs of aging on the rim. I get a fair amount of earthiness, herbs, and red fruit aromas and flavors. This is a very good light to medium bodied red wine, with medium-plus acidity and integrated tannins. This red blend is primarily Sangiovese, with only 5% Syrah added for good measure.
The grapes are farmed and certified regenerative, with an eye toward future Demeter certification. The tech notes state that AVIVO is one of the only three U.S. wineries that have certified glyphosate-free (free of Roundup) in their farming practices. It is impressive and surprising to me that only three wineries have this status. This is a huge commitment and statement of sustainability by the AVIVO winery brand.
