2020 Plaisance Ranch Mondeuse

I reviewed the 2019 Mondeuse for Joe’s interview and recently received the 2020 to taste. This is another excellent effort to showcase the Mondeuse grape from the Savoie region in France. It’s medium-bodied with the same characteristics as noted in the 2019 review here: https://winecharacters.com/2019-plaisance-ranch-mondeuse/

The 2020 is juicy and peppery and reminds me of a cool climate Syrah, clocking in at only 13% alcohol. There’s a long and pleasant finish. We decided to pair this with a buttermilk-bined spatchcocked chicken, basically a perfect pairing. The cornbread and arugula salad rounded out the meal. I’ve read that Mondeuse is on the upswing with Sommeliers in the U.S. We’ll see if it becomes popular with consumers. Nonetheless, the Ginet family enjoys the legend of this label, and is committed to its history and ongoing production. I say Bravo!
