It should come as no surprise that Okanagan Valley, British Columbia can produce outstanding classic-method sparkling wines. The cool to moderate climate and granitic soils are ideal for low alcohol bubbles. The Odyssey White Brut weighs in at only 11.6% and is a fine example of a cool climate sparkler. I loved the citrus aromas, yeasty nose, and effervescent creamy mouthfeel. I ran to the cupboard to fetch potato chips for the classic pairing. Next level suggestion: Top the chips or crackers with a smear of Crème fraîche, and a tad caviar or lox and you’ll be singing a happy song.
This sparkling wine is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling. It’s spent 18 months on the lees before bottling. Fresh citrus fruit and floral aromas, with crisp acidity, are balanced and the wine lingers nicely on the pallet.
Value note: I usually don’t comment on price but at 27 Canadian Dollars, i.e. $20.00 US this is an excellent value for quality that I recommend pursuing.
