2020 Alta Orsa Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

I loved well-balanced, savory Cabs. This one is deep purple and opaque in the glass. It shows black fruit, floral and herbal aromas, and it finishes long with well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity. It’s a beautifully structured wine, and although the alcohol is 14.2 percent, it is not apparent.

Fruit is sourced from Alta Orsa’s high elevation estate vineyard, which is regeneratively farmed, organic, and no till. Vine age averages 30 years, and yields are quite low (only 220 cases produced).

I normally wouldn’t pair Coq au Vin with a Cabernet Sauvignon, but this worked perfectly thanks to the restrained tannins and savory notes. Enjoy this excellent 2020 Cabernet now, or hold one to three years to see how it develops. You can read Winemaker Martin’s Wine Characters interview here to learn more.
