Tenuta Valdipiatta has a solid family history of winemaking dating back to the mid-1980s. This vino nobile wine is from D’Alfiero vineyard, an estate vineyard in Montepulciano dedicated to the first vineyard worker Miriam’s father employed.
The wine is garnet-tawny in color, and at six years of age, it’s showing medium-dark fruits and aromas and flavors of dusty bush herbs like rosemary and thyme on the palate. This is a fully developed wine that is ready to drink now or hold for one to three years.
We’re enjoying this Sangiovese wine with a classic meatloaf, roasted broccoli and tomatoes, and an arugula salad. I wouldn’t hesitate to bring it to our favorite pizza restaurant and pay corkage. This is very good wine at a good price point. Given the recent acquisition by Monteverdi of Tuscany, I expect you’ll easily find it in local markets.
