The Mondeuse grape and wine produced by Joe Ginet of Plaisance Ranch is one of the most interesting and aromatic wines I’ve tasted for this project. The 2019 Mondeuse has a pleasant aroma reminiscent of a trip to the countryside, wine country. I’m reminded of dusky thyme and rosemary bushes, black pepper, savory, slightly wild, and sauvage. I’d like to drink this wine with a wild game dish but didn’t have any on hand, so we paired with grilled rosemary season chicken thighs (mildly gamey). The tannins melted away under the richness of the bird legs.
This wine is light bodied but intense with a lingering finish teasing something you can’t quite put your taste buds on. This is a very good wine and I suggest seeking it out for the experience. It is quite emblematic of the Plaisance Ranch, the Ginet Family and their wine brand. Contact Joe by email or visit the tasting room to ask about aging this wine. Read Joe Ginet’s interview here.
