The “MPS” blends 70% Merlot with 30% Petite Verdot. It shows purple in the glass with blue and black fruit aromatics, hints of tobacco, dusty herbs, and integrated tannins.
This is an excellent wine and showcases The Blending Lab concept. I love that a Merlot forward wine with Petite Syrah was chosen as their flagship. This is very textural wine but not as chewy as one might expect with PS in the blend. Relatively high alcohol at 15.5% is well integrated. The wine is balanced and shows off Michael Keller’s winemaking talents and style. You can and should drink this now, or hold for aging to see how it develops over the next four to seven years. We’re enjoying this wine with a classic Beef Daube. i.e. Provencal beef stew. Yes, on egg noodles. Dark chocolate-covered salted almonds for dessert also paired well. Take a look at Michael Keller’s interview for why MPS was selected as their most emblematic wine.
