Big kudos to winemaker Nicholas and the marketing team for one of the best back labels I’ve seen in a while. “When you hire a Craftsman” positions and portrays this wine beautifully. I recommend buying a bottle and experiencing the packaging and, of course, the wine for yourself.
Deep purple colored, black fruited, vanilla scented. It has it all. This is a classic Bordeaux-style wine ( 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc) from the Chaine d’Or, a single vineyard site with 30+ year vines. The resulting wine offers layers of complexity, and the oak regimen should allow this Cab to continue to age well, five to seven years, and allow the tannins to continue to soften and fully integrate. This is a full-bodied wine of intensity with a medium to long finish, best enjoyed with a great meal and friends.
We decided to pair this with grilled chicken breast marinated in a Cabernet-based BBQ sauce, complemented with a southwestern cilantro lime coleslaw, with black rice and roasted baby tomatoes. To say the least, it was a swell meal. Please click here to read wine character Nicolas Vonderhayden.
