2017 Venturi-Schulze Pinot Noir

I can’t help thinking that winegrower Michelle slipped some of the family’s prized balsamic vinegar into this wine, to boost its flavor and acidity. Michelle?

No, seriously, I think I experienced confirmation bias thinking about the exceptional balsamics the family makes, then I tasted this wine – sweet, savory, rich, tart, earthy – all at once in this unique pinot noir from Cowichan Valley.

“From the Before Times” refers to the pre-COVID era, and all the unintended consequences, in this case, overwintering by, I’m guessing, two years? This is a savory pinot noir with tart acidity and a finish that just won’t quit. We grilled coho salmon, high in fat content, and the wine cozied up nicely.
