The “Asha” Pinot Noir makes several bold statements. First, it’s a big wine – from a warm fruit-forward vintage – 2016 in Willamette Valley. Second, this wine was chosen by Moe Momtazi because “Asha” represents everything the winery stands for, and the very ethos of Maysara Vineyard. That is, thoughtful, purposeful caring for the land and what eventually goes into the bottle.
Maysara Vineyard is farmed biodynamically and is one of the few Willamette Valley vineyards that is Demeter certified. Congrats to the Momtazi family for their persistence over multiple generations, commitment to the land, and sustainability. Additionally, only native yeast kicked off fermentation, and the wine rested on French oak for almost two years. The result speaks for itself.
This is an excellent full-bodied wine, deep crimson and brick red in color, and still in balance after almost nine years. Luscious, juicy, and jammy, yet still fresh and showing lots of dark cherry and blackberry fruit with a long finish on the palate. This wine is an excellent representation of the 2016 vintage and what growing organically and holistically can taste like. Only 600 cases were made. Inquire at the winery if you’re interested in tasting and learning more about why the “Asha” pinot noir is the most emblematic wine of the Maysara brand.
